Goings On
Well, since the last time I posted things have been very busy to say the least, but the good news is that the house sold and we are working out the details for closing. The new house is coming along pretty well and we are hoping to maintain our schedule of closing in mid-August. We have been visiting pretty much every day to see the progress and I gotta say, this is pretty exciting to see each step of the building process...only because it's ours!!!
I'm still looking for PE openings but the 'hiring season' is still not really off the ground. I did have an interview at a charter school in Detroit and I was pretty impressed with their set-up, their philosophy, facilities, and faculty. It wasn't in the best area but the school has been there for a while and the kids seemed to really like being there. So now I wait and continue to check the websites of districts.
The Pistons kept with their Eastern Conference Finals disappearing act losing to Boston this year. Tayshaun didn't seem like he wanted to be playing, Rip was just average, McDyess was decent but was being focused on because no one else was a bloody threat to score, Chauncy was playing with a bum leg, and Sheed decided that he wasn't going to play his hardest for Flip. The bench that had shown so much improvement during the season was almost non-existant with the exception of Maxiell and Stuckey. So Joe D fired Flip and said that the entire roster "is in play." Of course, this isn't a fire sale or complete overhaul, but Joe is putting quite a bit of himself on the line here with these upcoming moves and coaching hire. After some questionable draft choices, Joe needs to get this right or he might be feeling the seat is getting warmer.
The Tigers are fresh off a butt kicking in Oakland and are now 11 games under .500 which is not where anyone thought this team would be considering the offseason changes that were made to the pitching staff and lineup. No one is exempt from blame that puts on the jersey or hat, and no one seems to have any answers as to what can be done to turn this disastrous season around. Guellien is crap right now and can't defend his way across the lockerroom. Cabrera is not playing like the stud everyone said we were getting and what the hell is going on with Verlander? It isn't even like he is pitching lights out and getting zero run support, he is getting hit hard most nights and couple that with no run support and you have your ace with a washout season before the All-Star Break.
But all is not grim around here, the Wings finally dispatched of the whining, complaining Penguins in six games to win the 11th Stanley Cup in team history. So much history was made last night that I don't need to rehash it here, but what was a really sad display was the fans in Pittsburgh put on after they lost. The fans there actually booed the Wings. I understand being pissed that your team wasn't good enough to get the job done, but the classlessness that fanbase showed was really telling. The whining and complaining about the officiating was louder than either arena and wasn't really justified. Sure, the Draper hit on Gonchar last night was a penalty, but the Hudler "hook" was a joke. Fleury interfered with Franzen and those dilussional twits wanted another penalty against the Wings. There were so many bad calls and bad non-calls that happened and at least 70% went in favor of the Pengwhiners. And the Nothing But Crosby network wasn't doing any better. I used to have a ton of respect for Mike Emerick but even he was on the ridiculous side of calling things in such a slant toward Pittsburgh that even former Pittsburgh head coach Ed Olczyk was talking like he was in consideration to get that job again...despite the fact that he sucked as a coach. But alls well that ends well, and the Wings are on top of the hockey world serving the league a healthy dose of 'ha ha, we kicked your savior's ass for six games.'
Now we wait for football season where things should get really interesting.
