Sparty Week
This week is known in the State of Michigan as Michigan-Michigan State week. Sparty-Blue week. The week that Art Van decides how much of a sale he is going to put on his couches in his Lansing area stores. The week when the Ingham County Sheriff hopes that all the fire retardant riot gear they ordered arrives. In short, when Michigan travels up to East Lansing to play Sparty, this year for the 100th time, things get out of hand in the land of moo.
Will Michigan have Henne and Hart this week? I guess we'll find out Saturday. Will Dantonio be able to get his second-rate "players" up for their bowl game? Oh yeah, in case you don't know, Sparty is trying to get back to a bowl game at the end of the season for the first time since John L. took them to the Alamo Bowl. This is their biggest game of the year, every year and they can't seem to get over that hump of imploding in games they should win. What happened in Iowa City last week? Sparty let a dormant offense wake up and take advantage of them. Were they looking ahead to this week? Perhaps, but this isn't a new trend for Sparty. Every year regardless of the coaching staff they seem to talk big about how this year is different but then they go beaten by an inferior team...every single year!!! But then, there are years that they jump up and beat Michigan, whether they play the game of their lives or if they manipulate the clock in their favor, or trip the Michigan receiver when the ball is in the air.
Dantonio put up a clock when he got hired and it was initially set to countdown the time until kickoff of the Michigan game. Now he asked the question "How long do we have to bowing down to Michigan?" Well, coach I have your answer: Forever. Sparty is inferior to Michigan in every way, and I'm not just saying that to rag on Sparty, but because they have such an inferiority complex when it comes to Michigan, it has become encoded in their DNA!!!

Switching gears a little here, Jon Kitna of the Detroit Lions...the 5-2 Detroit Lions...has been getting ripped locally and nationally for his Halloween costume. He came to the Lions Halloween Party dressed as a naked man...one of those t-shirts that has a chest drawn on it... with his wife dressed as a Wendy's drive-thru attendant complete with rid pigtail wig! This was a play on Lions defensive line coach Joe Cullen who had been arrested last year for driving through a Wendy's while naked. And drunk. He has since kept his nose clean and is able to laugh at himself, and able to take it when others rag on him for what he did. Let's face it, this is hilarious. In the world of sports this is a sincere form of flattery, not a slam. If Kitna wanted to let Cullen know he didn't like him or was really trying to rag on him he wouldn't have done it in this manner. Something else would have happened in the locker room, not at the Halloween party! Reporters that are making so much out of this and labeling Kitna as an insensitive idiot for choosing this costume need to get off him. This was just a joke that Cullen obviously doesn't have a problem with, so let it go and laugh at it for the funny thing it was.
The Detroit Lions are hosting the Broncos this week and Dre Bly was called out by Roy Williams for not tackling. Really? Dre Bly doesn't tackle? Is this why he is just a cover corner? Yup. Bly wasn't quiet while in Detroit about the play of Joey Harrington, but Dre could have slammed himself too for being a weak tackler. I met Dre at the NFL Experience when the Super Bowl was here in Detroit and I had a picture taken with him. If he could have looked more annoyed and disinterested I don't want to see it. He wasn't very friendly and seemed put out by having to be there. Well this week he comes back and will got booed like Matt Millen. Dre also is coming off a game in which he gave up the game winning touchdown too Greg Jennings of the Packers on the first play of overtime! He looked slow, tired, out of position and couldn't recover to make a play. A big time player that couldn't make a play. Bout time that the Lions don't have that guy on their roster anymore.
